Characterization of Immediate Causes of Female and Male Deaths Due to External Causes in the Guarapuava-RP Region

External causes are characterized by violent events that generate trauma, injury and health complications. When the outcome is death, it reveals weaknesses in Public Policies (PP) drawn by the State. This study aims to identify the immediate causes of female and male deaths in the region of the municipality of Guarapuava/Paraná, the type of injury and the affected body region, as well as to assess verify the use of alcohol and other drugs. It is a quantitative, cross-sectional and descriptive study whose population comprising autopsied deaths in the IML of Guarapuava/Paraná in the period 2020 and 2021 obtaining relative and absolute frequencies, Chi-square test and Fisher’s Exact Test. The results show that the significant sociodemographic variables include age group where, the female sex had the highest frequency in adolescence (17.8%) and over 60 years (19.3%), while the male sex presented as a young adult (26.6%) and 30 to 39 years (18.2%) Regarding education, equity was maintained at the elementary school level. In the autopsy examinations the toxicological test for alcohol was noticed that the alcohol toxicology was more prevalent positive in males’ sex (28.3%) while the toxicological test for cocaine showed a higher positivity in females (0.7%). In addition, the number of lesions was proportionally equal between sexes and was predominantly classified as polytrauma (> 2) and most bruises (61.7%) The predominant municipality of occurrence was classified as "others" (56.9%). The data collected were compatible with the current literature, highlighting that the mortality pattern is related to issues in the effectiveness of Public Policies (PP) in the country.
